Obituary

John J. Sanfratello, 61, passed away Tuesday, February 21, 2023 at his home after battling stage 4 lung cancer that was discovered December 20, 2022.

John was born in Brooklyn, NY and the son of the late Liborio and Concetta Morgera Sanfratello. John was loved by many, he loved his family and God, had a passion for singing and music, had an eye for coin collecting, and was a gifted cook. He graduated from Twin Lakes High School Palm Beach, FL. He received his Bachelor of Science in the Management of Human Resources - Palm Beach Atlantic College - West Palm Beach, FL. He worked toward a master's degree in Special Education before he became permanently disabled in 2011. John was a teacher for 16 years in both public and private schools in SC, NY, and FL, including teaching at Saluda High School 2006-2010. He was a member of Celebrations Church and their men's ministry. Also, he taught middle schoolers Sunday school and Royal Rangers in connection with another church. He was influenced with music when growing up in a home where his Dad Liborio gave private music lessons, was a classical guitarist who was accepted at Juilliard School, and played with Andres Segovia and Tommy Dorsey Band.

Surviving are his wife of 10 years Wendy Lynn Evans Chaney of Saluda, SC; a daughter, Gianna Sanfratello of Poughkeepsie, NY; a stepson, Brandon Chaney of Saluda, SC. On his Mom's side surviving are those living in NY Aunt Catherine DiCostanzo, the late Frank & Anna Morgera, Uncle Jimmy & Aunt Etta Morgera, and Aunt Angela & Uncle Tony Logatto. On his Dad's side surviving cousin in NY Ann Marie Fontana. On his Mom's side surviving cousins in NY are Benny & Andrea DiCostanzo, Frank & Susan DiCostanzo, Brigitte & Joseph Zabbatino, Fabrizio & Debi Morgera, Frank& PattyAnn Morgera, and Antoinette & Charles Spada. On his Mom's side surviving cousins in WI Joseph & Nancy Logatto, late MaryAnn Logatto, Angela Logatto Sneesbee & John Sneesbee, children Alyssa, Maryann, Rylie, Phoenix; in FL Margo Logatto, Anthony Logatto, Elena Logatto. In-laws NY siblings Charlie & Melanie White, child Theresa White, in CA Rebecca White; in TX siblings Brian & Mouna Evans, child Jenna Evans; in KY Uncle Larry & Aunt Nancy Lagedrost, Aunt Carol Mueller, Joe & Jamie Mueller, child Elizabeth Mueller, Michelle Mueller, John & Cindy Witte, child Isaac Witte, Matt & Ann Lagedrost, children Emma Lagedrost and Clayton Lagedrost.

A funeral service will be held at 2 PM, Saturday, March 4, 2023 at Celebrations Church in Batesburg, SC, with Rev. Jerry Brunson and Pastor Joseph Hallman officiating. There is a viewing and family will receive friends starting at 1 PM at the church.
