Saluda, SC Eileen Quattlebaum Eileen McDowell Quattlebaum, 95, died Good Friday, April 2, 2021, at Saluda Nursing Center. Born in Saluda County, raised in the Good Hope Community, she was the late James Hardin McDowell and Mamie E. Kemp’s daughter. December 27, 1945, she married the late Hunter Mac Quattlebaum. Ms. Quattlebaum was a former sales representative and manager for Tiara Exclusives, where she ranked in the top percentile of her peers. Her career began at the Clemson Extension office, and later between raising a family, she worked at Harmon Provision Company and Gentry's Poultry Company. She and Coach Quattlebaum joined St. Paul UMC soon after they married while boarding at the late Johnnie and Winfred Goff’s home and was an active member as long as her health permitted. While attending St Paul, she was a member of the Louise Best Circle and the J. N. DeLoache Sunday School Class. She was an avid Bridge player and was well known in all the bridge clubs in the county and a Saluda Garden Club member. Over the years, she was chairman of the Saluda County cancer drive. She went on to serve as the volunteer representative on the South Carolina division of the American Cancer Society. She also served on the Saluda County Board of Election as a poll manager for many years. Mr. Mac and Ms. Eileen managed Teen Town in the late ’60s. The Saluda Jaycees sponsored Teen Town at the Saluda pool and recreation center. They provided a safe and structured environment for Saluda teens to congregate, meet up with their friends, and dance to a live band every Saturday night for several years. Surviving are her three children, Sara Q Shealy (Russell) of Clemson, Fred M Quattlebaum (Michael W Prewitt) of Columbia, and Kim Q Hopkins (George Wilbur) of Saluda, and three grandchildren, Tucker B Shealy (Mandy) of Mt. Pleasant, Brittany Shealy of Greer and Hunter Hopkins of Saluda. Her Great-grandchildren Emma Claire Shealy and Cutler Shealy reside in Mt Pleasant. Ms. Quattlebaum was preceded in death by a brother, Willie Fred McDowell, who died on his 25th birthday serving as a Naval Radioman during WWII. The family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation to the Saluda Nursing Center staff, especially those on the Riley wing, Bill Sawyer MD, and Leanna Owens PA. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, April 10, 2021, at St. Paul United Methodist Church, with Rev. Susan Maddox and Rev. Nels Ledwell officiating. Following the service, the family will receive friends in the family life center. Interment will follow at 2 p.m., at Good Hope Baptist Church Cemetery, with Rev Susan Maddox and Rev. Nicky Long officiating. All celebrations are PUBLIC, and the family requests the honor of your presence where your schedule allows, and comfort level exists. The family also asks you to celebrate Spring and Ms. Quattlebaum’s love of life in your dress as you plan to join them Saturday.
