Ninety Six, SC George Berry George Alfred Berry, 76, died Thursday, July 22, 2021 at Hospice House and Palliative Care of the Piedmont. Born in Greenwood County and a son of the late Martin Alonzo Berry and Vera Hasting Berry, he was the husband of Barbara Jean Leopard Berry. Mr. Berry worked as a carpenter at Fortner Inc for many years. After that, he established Berry & Sons Logging, Inc. where he worked with his three sons for 35 years. After retiring from self-employment he went to work for Log Creek Timber Co. of Johnston, SC , as a cutter operator where he was currently employed. He was a member of Beacon of Hope Church where he served as Deacon and Trustee. He loved hunting, fishing and taking care of his cows. Surviving are his wife, Barbara Jean Leopard Berry, three sons, George Martin Berry (Donna) and Tony Berry both of Saluda and Wallace Berry (Stacey) of Ninety Six, seven grandchildren, Lacey Addy (Roland), Hunter Berry (Caitlin), Brandon Berry (Josie), Savannah Smith (Luke), Victoria Berry, Cody Berry (Katelyn) and Kade Berry, four great-grandchildren, Chloe Smith, Blakely Berry, C.J. Smith and Rhetta Kate Berry, five sisters, Emma Edwards (Henry), Nora Bagwell, Debbie Gillion and Sheila Rodgers (Homer) all of Ninety Six and Melba Morgan (Bill) of Saluda, and a brother, Bishop Berry (Ann) of Ninety Six. Mr. Berry was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Ashley Diane Berry and a great-granddaughter, Madalynn Anne Smith. A graveside service will be held 11 a.m., Monday, July 26, 2021 at Elmwood Cemetery in Ninety Six, with Rev. Chuck Clark and Rev. Burton Campbell officiating.
