George William Schumpert, Jr.

March 6, 1925 - March 12, 2016

George William Schumpert, Jr., 91, died peacefully Saturday, March 12, 2016 at his residence. Born in Saluda County and a son of the late George William Schumpert, Sr. and Louise Yarbrough Schumpert, he was the husband of 50 years to the late Betty Frances Pow Schumpert. Mr. Schumpert was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran during World War II having served in the Pacific Theater. He was a life-long farmer and a mechanic having been employed with Eagle Construction and later retiring from the SC Department of Education. Mr. Schumpert was a member of Hickory Grove Advent Christian Church. A loving husband, father, father in-law, grandfather and great-grandfather. He loved and honored his God, Country and Family and he was loved and respected by his friends and family. Surviving are a son, George William Schumpert, III (Linda) of Saluda ,two grandchildren, George William "Will" Schumpert, IV (Mary Beth) and Brooke Nicole Schumpert both of Saluda, two great-grandchildren, Addy Grace and Laura Kate, two brothers, Curtis Lee Schumpert of Saluda and Milton Schumpert (Pat) of Columbia, and beloved nieces, nephews and friends. Mr. Schumpert was preceded in death by three brothers, Jacob V. "Schump" Schumpert, James Schumpert and Pete Schumpert and two sisters, Ann Eidson Wofford and Mary S. Senterfeit. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m., Monday, March 14, 2016 at Hickory Grove Advent Christian Church with Rev. Tommy Mitchell officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends following the service. Memorials may be made to Hickory Grove Advent Christian Church, Building Fund, 340 Hickory Grove Rd., Saluda, SC 29138.
