John Wayne Bennett Jr

January 4, 1962 - December 14, 2020

John Wayne Bennett, Jr., 58, passed away Monday, December 14, 2020 upon arrival at Self Regional ER in Greenwood, SC. Born in Greenwood, he was the son of Peggy Ann Griffin Bennett and the late John Wayne Bennett, Sr., and husband to Susan Cockrell Bennett. He was a member of Hickory Grove Advent Christian Church. John was a member of the Saluda High School Class of 1980, formerly worked at Greenwood Mills and Cable Connectors of Greenwood, and a co-founder and heart of Country Christmas of Saluda, SC. Being a talented musician, singer, and songwriter, he lent his talents to many people. He was an avid Carolina Gamecocks and Dallas Cowboys fan. He will be remembered as a loving and caring husband, father, son, brother and friend. He was cherished dearly and loved and respected by all who knew him. Left to cherish his memories are his wife of 34 years, Susan Cockrell Bennett, his mother, Peggy Ann Bennett of Saluda, a daughter, Amber Rene Bennett (Ben Ginn) of Saluda, a son, John Wayne Bennett III (Mitchell Toliver) of Columbia, a granddaughter, Olivia "Livi-Lou" Willa Ginn, a sister, Connie Faye Bennett of Saluda, as well as many, many friends John made throughout his life. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Friday, December 18, 2020 at Hopewell Congregational Holiness Church with Rev. Tommy Mitchell and Rev. Buddy Cockrell officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church and at other times at the home. Interment will follow at Bennett's Cemetery at 434 Fairfax Rd, Chappells, S.C. Memorials may be made to Hickory Grove Advent Christian Church, 340 Hickory Grove Rd., Saluda, SC 29138 or to Hopewell Congregational Holiness Church, 785 Old Chappells Ferry Road, Saluda, SC 29138.
