Lloyd Franklin Maye

July 10, 1922 - November 7, 2018

Saluda, SC Lloyd Franklin Maye, of Saluda, SC passed away on Wednesday, November 7, 2018. Mr. Maye was born July 10, 1922 in Sumter, SC to Peter R. Maye, Sr. and Katie Estelle Wood Maye. He was the eighth child born of eleven children and the last surviving member of his family. He was married to the late Mary Horton Maye for 58 years. She passed away on October 26, 2014. He retired from Bethlehem Steel in Baltimore, Maryland after working there for 40 years. He and Mary moved to Saluda, SC after his retirement for a few years, and then moved to Johnson City, TN where they made their home for 30 plus years. Mr. Maye served in the Armed Forces in the early 40's. He was stationed at Fort Benning, GA, serving in the Medical Detachment, 4th MTZ Division. Mr. Maye was a member of the Patapsco Masonic Lodge in Maryland for over 55 years. He loved to play golf and he started a hobby of woodworking after his retirement, making some beautiful pieces which he shared with family and friends. He also had a lovely voice and loved to sing. He was predeceased by his parents, his wife, five sisters; Ann Maye Callaham, Sue Maye Pipper, Sallie Maye Horne, Thelma Maye Gardner and Jessie Erline Maye, five brothers, Kinchen Maye, Allen Maye, Lynwood Maye, Peter Robert Maye, Jr. and Charlie Maye. He is survived by nieces and nephews. Mr. Maye had been residing at Generations in Leesville, SC for the past few years. The family would like to extend a special thanks to all the staff for the love and care given to Lloyd. The family is at the home of his niece, Glenda Metts. A graveside service will be held 3 p.m., Saturday, November 10, 2018 at Highland Cemetery in Rogersville, TN with Rev. Wayne Horne officiating. Memorials may be made to the Boys Farm, P.O. Box 713, Newberry, SC 29108.
