Marjean Anderson Padgett

March 19, 1957 - April 19, 2022

Saluda, SC Marjean Padgett Marjean Anderson Padgett, lovingly known as Jean, Mama Jean or Memaw depending on one’s relationship with her, peacefully slipped into the arms of Jesus on Tuesday, April 19, 2022 surrounded by her beloved family. Marjean was born to Dorothy Mae Parrott Anderson and the late John Frank Anderson at their home in Saluda, SC on March 19, 1957. Marjean was blessed with a large and loving family. She was the oldest daughter of 7 children which attributed to her patient, mothering nature. She “practiced” being a mother to her younger siblings and thought of the youngest, Phillip, as “her baby”, even taking him on dates. From an early age, she cooked, cleaned and cared for her family. Jean graduated from Saluda High School in 1975 after attending Hollywood School through the 11th grade. During her time in school, despite her tiny stature, she helped by driving school buses. After graduating, she became a Special Education Teacher’s aide, a job she often said was the most rewarding she ever had. At the age of 22, she married the love of her life, William Russell Padgett, Sr. She and “Big Russ” were blessed with two sons, “Little” Russ and Brandon, whom she raised with patience, love and humility. Naturally, she was the best and most loving Mother, as she had spent almost her entire life mothering others. She and Russell spent many years working on local dairy and chicken farms together. They both shared a dream to own their own farm and in 1998 their dream came true when they built Padgett’s Poultry, an egg production farm. In 2002, Russell passed away, leaving Jean to continue farming with the help of her two sons. Despite the odds stacked against a young woman farmer at the time, Jean’s strength and resiliency kept their dream alive, even to this day. Jean spent her life doing what she loved most; loving others, caring for her family, baking, traveling and crafting with her adored granddaughter, Malani. She lived her life in service and dedication to her Savior, Jesus Christ. Over the years, she touched numerous lives and spread the Good News of Jesus wherever she went. She was a true Proverbs 31 woman, “far more precious than jewels”. Unconditional love was her specialty and it extended far beyond her family. She was a woman anyone could call on and she would help. Her heart and home were always open; all you had to do was “holler if you need me”. Surviving are two sons, Russ Padgett, Jr. (Brittin) who gave Jean a granddaughter, Malani, and Brandon Padgett (Haley), both of Saluda, her mother, Dorothy Mae Parrott Anderson of Saluda, two sisters, Rita Crocker (Bobby) of Allendale and Angie Padgett (Randy) of Saluda, two brothers, Randy Anderson (Barbara) of Leesville and Phillip Anderson (Lisa) of Saluda, two sisters-in-law, Debbie Anderson of Lexington, and Cindy Padgett-Lugo (Mario) of Saluda, numerous nieces and nephews and countless friends and lives Marjean has touched throughout her life. Mrs. Padgett is preceded in death by her father, John Frank Anderson, husband, William Russell Padgett, Sr., two brothers, Russell Anderson and Marvin Anderson and a nephew, Josh Temples. The family will receive friends from 6 PM until 8 PM, Saturday, April 23, 2022 at Ramey Funeral Home. Although devastated by her loss, her family hopes each life touched by Jean will join in her Celebration of Life held at 3 PM, Sunday, April 24, 2022 at Sardis Baptist Church with Rev. Mickey Stalvey officiating. Interment will follow. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Memorials Processing, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-9959. Job well done, Momma.
