Sarah Annelle Witt Butler
November 2, 1944 - July 19, 2015
Sarah Annelle Witt Butler, died July 19, 2015, surrounded by her family. Born November 2, 1944, in Saluda County, she was the daughter of the late Alton Martin Witt and Maggie Lou Green Witt. A 1962 graduate of Saluda High School, her first love was basketball. A graduate from both Newberry College and Erskine College, she was a teacher by profession, but her life work was service to her Lord, her family and friends, and her church. She served her Lord and church family faithfully at Good Hope Baptist Church where she was a Sunday School teacher, the choir director, and a constant encourager. She worked at Saluda Nursing Center for many years, taught many children and adults alike to swim, and baked countless cakes for family and friends. She touched many lives by the testimony she shared—and the testimony she lived. As she battled cancer near the end of her life, her greatest desire was that she would be found faithful. Surviving are her husband Jones of 42 years; two daughters, Dayna Bledsoe (Kenneth) and Kerri Ridlehoover (Bobby) of Saluda, and a son, Justin (Rachael) of Mount Pleasant. Called Annma Nelle and Nanee , her seven grandchildren were her pride and joy: Hunter and Holli Bledsoe; Trey, Kamryn, and Ty Ridlehoover; and Jack and Drew Butler. She is, also, survived by sisters, Brenda Witt and Marlene Smith, and a brother, Wayne Witt, and many nieces and nephews. Funeral Services will be held at 6 pm on Wednesday, July 22, at Good Hope Baptist Church, 1738 Greenwood Highway, Saluda. The family will receive friends on Tuesday evening from 6-8 pm at her home, 112 Century Farm Rd. The family extends a special thank you to Augusta Oncology, Hospice Care of Tri-County, and Medi-Home Care. Memorials may be made to The Brittany Strom Foundation of Costa Rica, 3037 Old Charleston Rd, Saluda, SC, 29138.
