Sherman Lee McNuer

September 13, 1932 - January 27, 2014

Sherman Lee McNuer was born September 13, 1932 in Saluda County, SC, to the late Johnny Joseph and Bertha "Babe" Dickert McNuer. Lee went to be with the Lord on Monday, January 27, 2014. Preceding him in death were one sister and four brothers: Myrtle M. Willis, Julian Mack, John Henry McNuer, Alan McNuer and Edward "Ed" McNure. Survivors include his two daughters: Deborah "Debbie" McNuer, Teresa "Terri" McNuer (Richard) Taylor all of Hickory, NC, grandchildren: Heather Beach Gilmore of Lincolnton, NC, Christopher "Chip" Beach of Mooresville, NC, David (Michelle) Taylor of Ramstein AFB, Germany, great-grandchildren: William, Madison and Gabriel. Surviving siblings: Polly Norris-Ridings of Saluda, SC, James "Jim" (Brenda) McNuer of Laurens, SC, one aunt, Mary Jones of Gilbert, SC and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Mr. McNuer served 8 years, 8 months and 8 days in the USMC, reaching rank of Staff Sergeant. While in the Marine Corp, he served in the Korean War, 1st Marine Division, in charge of the 4.2" mortar company. After being in service, Sherman lived in Hickory, NC from 1960 to 1996. During this time, he became a truck driver and retired from Boise Cascade Corp. after 32 years with their company. In 1996, he moved back to Saluda, SC. Some of Sherman's hobbies included: Nascar Racing, volleyball, bowling, hunting and fishing. He was selected several times to play in the Augusta National Bowling Tournament. Some of Sherman's favorite things were, spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, his dogs, his daily visits to the Huddle House, going to church, revivals and gospel singings. In his better days, Sherman enjoyed singing for the residents of Saluda Nursing Home and at church service. Sherman was a member of Bible Believers Congregational Holiness Church in Saluda, and prior member of Hickory First Church of God in NC. In addition, he attended multiple other churches. Receiving will be from 1 to 3 pm, at Ramey Funeral Home in Saluda, SC. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 3 pm, on Thursday, January 30, 2013 in the chapel of Ramey Funeral Home. The family will have a private graveside service in Hickory, NC, with full military rites. Memorials can be made to a charity of one's choice.
