Saluda, SC Winford Metts Winford Oneal Metts 89 of Saluda, S.C. husband of Eleanor Palmer Metts passed away Tuesday, October 8, 2019. Mr. Metts was born March 14, 1930 to the late Ray Crosson Metts and Lettie Mae Hancock Metts. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m., Thursday, October 10, 2019 at Mt. Pleasant Lutheran Church with Pastor Jim Glander officiating. Interment will follow in Travis Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Winford was a graduate of Saluda High School and retired from Monsanto. After retirement, he worked part time for Daniel Construction Company, and the postal service. He served over 10 years in the National Guard and was a former member of the Saluda Civitan Club and the Greenwood Bassmaster’s Club. He received the Bassmaster Sportsmanship award in 1980. He was a lifelong member of Mt. Pleasant Lutheran Church where he served multiple terms on the church Council and numerous other committees including the reconstruction committee after the church burned in 1996. He was a member of both Mt. Pleasant and Western District Lutheran Men’s Organization and received the Lutheran Man of the Year award from in 2008. Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Eleanor Palmer Metts, daughters Marlene Metts and Elizabeth White, daughter- in-law Ginny Metts, sons-in-law Wayne White and Richard Blanset. He is also survived by eight grandchildren and their spouses, Jessica and Chris Faulkner, Jonathan and Mary Metts, Erin and Harvey Talbert, Steven and Jessica Metts, Michael and Katie White, Christen and Matthew Hall, Lauren Metts and Meagan White. He was the proud great-grandfather of Kaden, Logan, Marlayna, Palmer, Sawyer, Layne, Pike and Julia. He is survived by one sister, Mildred Perry, one brother, George Metts, two sisters-in-law Dorothy Metts and Glenda Metts. He was predeceased by a daughter, Karen Metts Blanset, and son, Layne Metts, great-grandson John-Michael Hall, sister Mollie Morgan, brother Robert Metts, brother-in-law James Perry and special nephew Michael Metts. The family wishes to thank Self Regional Hospital, Self Regional Home Health, Hospice of the Piedmont, and Dr. Ralph Riley for their excellent care. We are forever grateful to his loving caregivers, Dory Whittle, Sylvia Helms, Barbara Jones, Marie DeLoache and Christen Hall for allowing him to remain in the home he loved.
