Arthur Gordon Parris, 80, died Friday, January 24, 2014, at his residence.

Born in Abingdon, VA and a son of the late Vernie Alonza and Essie Gray Parris, he was the husband of Frances Isabelle Gray Parris. Rev. Parris was retired from Mathis Plumbing in Greenwood and was a retired Baptist Minister. He was a US Air Force veteran and was a member of New Horizon Baptist Church.

Surviving are his wife, Frances Gray Parris, children, Nancy Canter of Meadowview, VA, Betty Poole of Thomasville, NC, Carol Griffin of Kingsport, TN, Gary Parris of Greenwood, SC, Patricia Parris of Lodi, VA, Joann Quesenberry of Meadowview, VA, Marlene Moody of Wheeling, WV and Daniel Catlett of Leesburg, VA; two sisters, Sena Martin of Saluda and Alta Koning of Chillhowie, VA; sixteen grandchildren, twenty three great grandchildren and one great- great grandchild.

Rev. Parris was preceded in death by a daughter, Denise Brewen and five brothers and three sisters.

The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 PM Sunday evening at Ramey Funeral Home.

The funeral will be 2:00 PM Monday, January 27, 2014, at New Horizon Baptist Church with Rev. Joey Boggs and Rev. Lonnie Wilson officiating.
