Barbara Deloris Jachens Crouch, 94, passed away Sunday, June 1, 2025 at McCall Hospice House, Simpsonville, SC surrounded by her family. .
Born in Charleston, SC on July 18, 1930, Barbara was the daughter of Leon Vose and Thelma Burbage Jachens and devoted wife of the late John Kendall Crouch. She was a graduate of Memminger High School, Charleston SC, and received a Secretarial Certificate from Newberry College where she met her husband.
After their marriage in 1951 they moved to Greenville, SC where their two sons were born. In 1957 Kendall was transferred to Walterboro, SC and in 1961 to Charleston, SC, then in 1967 to Jacksonville, FL. In 1981 they retired and moved to their farm in Saluda, SC.
She was a member of Mount Pleasant Lutheran Church in Saluda and was a faithful life-long Lutheran. With each move they immediately found a church home, and both served in various capacities within the church. She was active in the PTA in the schools her sons attended, serving as President at Stiles Point Elementary School, James Island, SC. After moving to Saluda, she became involved in the Laubach Literacy Reading Program, working with students for several years.
In the 1990's she was secretary of the Saluda County Library Board and Chairman of the Saluda County Republican Party.
Mrs. Crouch is survived by her sons, Kevin Arden Crouch, Sr. (Susan Norris) of Saluda, John Kendal Crouch, Jr., of Greer, former daughter-in-law, Gail Crouch of Greer, the daughter she never had, a grandson, Kevin Arden Crouch, Jr. (Amanda) of Goose Creek, and three great-grandchildren, Addison, Emma, and William.
She was predeceased by her husband of 52 years, her parents, and one sister, Patricia Ann Jachens.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, June 6, 2025 at Ramey Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Elise Stringer officiating. Interment will follow in Travis Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at Ramey Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made to Mount Pleasant Lutheran Church, 101 N. Calhoun Street, Saluda, SC 29138.
