Mrs. Carolyn "Mimi" Chapman Etheredge, born in 1926, died on November 18, 2016 at the age of 90 in High Point NC.
A native of "The Dutch Fork" community of Little Mountain, SC, she was the oldest daughter of Eula Shealy and James Adam Chapman. She was predeceased in death by her late husband, Edwin Ball Etheredge. Survivors include her sisters, Minnie Lee Shealy of Chapin, SC, Eula Mae Nolff of Little Mountain, SC, a son, Alvin Etheredge and wife, Sue Gooden Etheredge along with grandsons, Samuel and Daniel Hammond Etheredge of Jamestown, NC. She is also survived by eight nieces and nephews.
She will be remembered as a tireless worker, who embraced a lifetime of service to family, church and community. A devout Lutheran, community servant, passionate teacher and loving "Mimi"; she served many roles and touched many lives throughout her lifetime.
A 1949 graduate of Winthrop College, she earned a degree in Home Economics with a degree in Secondary Education and furthered her studies at University of Tennessee. She embarked on a lifetime devoted to youth development as an extension agent and a science teacher. She fondly recalled adventurous trips to rustic destinations at Camp Long and Camp Bob Cooper with 4-Hers in tow. Likewise, her reputation as a tough science teacher was exemplified by her "Hands-On" Classroom Experiences, which often included dissections of bovine organs.
An avid gardener and cook, she enjoyed spending time with her family and contributing to community endeavors. She was a member of the Saluda Garden Club, Cedarwood Garden Club, Alpha Tau Sorority and a charter member of the Saluda Historical Society.
The visitation will be from 6:00 – 8:00 pm Thursday evening, November 24th at Ramey Funeral Home. The service will be held at 3:00 pm on Friday, November 25, at Mount Pleasant Lutheran Church, interment to follow at Red Bank Baptist Church in Saluda, SC.
