Obituary

Clara Ann Morse Hollis, 85, died Tuesday, September 30, 2014 at Aiken Regional Medical Center.

Born in North Charleston and a daughter of the late Solomon Morse and Gertrude Knight Morse Duncan, she was the wife of the late Avery Dalton Hollis, Jr. Mrs. Hollis attended Winthrop College and the University of South Carolina. She loved children and was interested in their education and that was her passion during her career. She retired from Chapin Elementary and Saluda High School. After retiring she delivered meals for the council on aging. Mrs. Hollis was a member of Millbrook Baptist Church where she was a member of the Soul Seekers Sunday school class and the Sunshine Girls.

Surviving are two sons, Avery Dalton Hollis, III of Saluda and John Michael Hollis of Prattville, AL, a daughter, Sheryl H. Jewell of Mobile, AL, a brother, Sol Morse, Jr. of N. Charleston, a stepsister, Annie Jean Thirkell of N. Augusta, ten grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son, Mark B. Hollis.

Funeral services will be held 2:30, Saturday, October 4, 2014 at Sardis Baptist Church with Rev. Dennis Campbell and Karen Radcliffe officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the fellowship hall.
