Clyde Theodore Merchant, Sr., 90, died Monday, November 26, 2018 at Self Regional Healthcare.
Born in Saluda County and the husband of the late Betty Mae Womack Merchant , he was a son of the late Robert Lee Merchant and Connie Clyde Crouch Merchant. Mr. Merchant was a US Army Air Corps veteran and was a member of Good Hope Baptist Church. He was a painter, plumber and carpenter, a former employee of Savannah River Site and he was a farmer.
Surviving are two sons, Clyde Theodore "Ted" Merchant, Jr. (Laura) and Bennie Leopard (Julie) both of Saluda, four daughters, Sophie Miller (Joel) of Saluda, Cathy Fisher (Bobby) of Waterloo, Angelita Smith (Marty) of Abbeville and Jessica Byers (Cecil) of Saluda, a brother, Gamewell Merchant of Saluda, two sisters, Connie Owings of Saluda and Betty Jo Dorn of Greenwood, six grandchildren, Kristie Leigh Owings (Jeremiah), Alisha Pereira (Ed), Jacob Bowie (Breanna), Kobe Miller, Rayna Smith and Gage Smith and twelve great-grandchildren.
Mr. Merchant was preceded in death by three brothers, Johnny Merchant, Thomas Ray Merchant and Robert Edwin Merchant and three sisters, Lillie Gunter, Sophie Fortner and Bobbie Crouch.
The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 3 until 7 p.m. at the home of Mr. Merchant.
Burial at Mayson Memorial Cemetery will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, November 29, 2018 followed by a Memorial service at Good Hope Baptist Church at 1:30 p.m. with Rev. Jeremy Beauford and Pastor Chuck Clark officiating.
