Daniel Player

Daniel "Pop" Edward Player, 96, passed away December 4, 2023, at Trident Medical Center.

Born March 15, 1927, in Charleston, SC and a son of the late George Edward Player and Eliza Mozelle Cumbee Player, he was the husband of Helen Lucille Robertson Player. Mr. Player retired from Savannah River Plant. He was a member at Richland Springs Baptist Church and was a Mason. He enjoyed yardwork and gardening, playing his guitar, and singing country music. He was quite the dancer, his favorite being the shag. When younger he loved to bowl and he always loved working on all things mechanical, especially cars.

Surviving alongside his wife of 47 years are two sons, Danny Player (Kym McLaughlin) of Summerville, Sam Player (Thereis) of Mt. Pleasant, a stepdaughter, Vonnie Y. Leaphart of Batesburg, and numerous grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Mr. Player is preceded in death by a daughter, Marie Player, a stepson, Rick Yarborough and seven siblings, Bonnie Hendrick, Guyton Player, Phyllis Glines, Eva Mae Thweatt, Hattie Powell, Aileen Newkirk, and Georgette Wilson.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Richland Springs Baptist Church of Saluda.

A graveside memorial service will be held at 3 p.m., Monday, December 11, 2023 at Hurt Family Cemetery (Richland Springs Cemetery, Saluda, SC) with Rev. Steve Jones officiating. The family will receive friends following the service.
