Born and raised in Prosperity, S.C., Donnie was the youngest son of the late James Eugene Ridgell and Roberta "Bobbie" Black Ridgell. A proud graduate of Hollywood High School's Class of 1969, Donnie started his career as a surveyor for SCDOT before dedicating 37 years to V.C. Summer Plant, where he later retired.
A member of the Saluda Masonic Lodge #103, Donnie spent many years as an active Freemason, deeply valuing the bonds of brotherhood and service to the community. Throughout his life, Donnie loved spending time with his family and friends skiing, boating and fishing on Lake Murray. A passionate Carolina Gamecock fan, Donnie treasured his time at Williams-Brice Stadium, surrounded by friends, cheering, laughing, and creating memories that lasted a lifetime.
Donnie was not more than a loving and devoted husband to Regina, his wife of 50 years, he was her best friend and unwavering partner in life. To his children, Lacy and Justin, he was their rock and their guiding light. His three grandchildren were his pride and joy, and he cherished every moment spent with them, passing down the values of kindness, hard work, and respect in the way only he could—through patience, laughter, and endless love. Whether offering words of wisdom, a helping hand, or a warm embrace, Donnie's presence was a gift to everyone who knew him. His love and laughter will echo in the hearts of his family forever.
