Doris Matthews

Doris Sue Duke Matthews, 93, died Thursday, February 6, 2020 at Ridge Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center in Edgefield.

Born in Saluda County and a daughter of the late Frank and Hazel Corley Duke, she was the wife of the late George Irvin Matthews. Mrs. Matthews was retired from Old School Manufacturing in Prosperity and was a member of Nazareth United Methodist Church.

Surviving are a son, James Arthur Matthews of Saluda, a brother, James Duke of Batesburg, a daughter in-law, Kathryn Brewer of Johnston, three granddaughters, Angie Smith of Johnston, Sandra Jumper of Leesville and Kathryn Lynn Brewer of Anderson, a great-grandson and a great-great-grandson.

Mrs. Matthews was preceded in death by two sons, Franklin D. Matthews and George Irvin Matthews, Jr., a brother, Freeman Duke and three sisters, Agnes Chapman, Grace Tardiff and Nell Shirey.

A graveside service will be held 2 p.m., Sunday, February 9, 2020 at Billy Matthews Cemetery with Rev. Ken Freeman officiating.
