Doris Jay

Doris Jean Smith Jay, 87, died Sunday, August 22, 2021 at Self Regional Healthcare in Greenwood.

Born in Saluda County and a daughter of the late Patrick Eugene Smith and Sudie Mae Rice Smith, she was the wife of the late Joseph William Jay. Mrs. Jay was retired from Riegel Industries in Johnston and was a member of Zoar United Methodist Church.

Surviving are, a son, Joseph Alvin Jay (Barbara) of Johnston, a daughter, Millie Jay Clark (Larry) of Johnston, three sisters, Jessie Werts, Sara Crawford (Bob) and Vinetta Nicholson all of Saluda, four grandchildren, Lindsay Jay Collar (Justin) of Johnston, Caroline Carpenter Boone (Sergeant First Class Keith A. Boone) of Leesville, LA, Melissa Carpenter Boatwright of Johnston and Callie Keller (Gunnery Sergeant Robert J. Keller) of Hubert, NC and nine great-grandchildren, Brittany Boatwright, Brett Wise, Landon Boatwright, Ava Keller, Caleb Boone, Vivian Keller, Ben Collar, Jack Collar and Samuel Collar.

Mrs. Jay was preceded in death by a grandson, Jeremy Wesley Jay, a brother, Virgil Smith and a sister, Lula Mae Jester.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m., Wednesday, August 25, 2021 at Zoar United Methodist Church with Rev. Tim Jones and Rev. Ken Freeman officiating. Interment will follow at Mayson Memorial Cemetery. All that are in attendance are asked to please wear a mask.
