Doshia Irene Duffie Smith, 89, died peacefully Wednesday evening, August 31, 2016 at her residence.
Born in Saluda County and a daughter of the late Henry Zed Duffie, Sr. and Ruth D. Duffie, she was the wife of the late Norman Conway Smith. She was a graduate of Lander College and Winthrop College. She was a retired school teacher having taught business and shorthand at Hollywood School and was a retired Social Service Supervisor Specialist with the South Carolina Department of Social Services. Mrs. Smith worked with the Saluda County Historical Society and was a member of the American Legion Post # 65 Ladies Auxiliary and a member of Good Hope Baptist Church, having accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at the age of 10.
Surviving are four sons, Henry Joe "Jody" Smith (spouse: Christina) of Charleston, Jon Duffie Smith of Clearwater, FL, James Kirk "Jimmy" Smith (Ginnie) of McCormick and Jene Conway "Jeno" Smith (Kara Kilpatrick) of Lexington, KY, a daughter, Jan Smith Bowman of Clearwater, FL, a sister, Peggy Black of Saluda, a sister in-law, Mary Helen Duffie of Saluda, a brother in-law, Joe Ed Smith (Marlene) of Saluda, seven grandchildren, Kirk Smith (Michelle), Kavon Smith, Ryan Smith (Katarina), Michael Bowman, Daniel Bowman, Andrea Dillard (Deke), and Austin Smith, and six great-grandchildren, Alex Smith, Andrew Smith, Adam Smith, Asa Smith, Sloan Dillard and Judah Dillard.
Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by three sisters, Bobbie Ann Duffie, Mildred Grant and Margaret Wallace, a brother, H.Z. Duffie, Jr. and a granddaughter, Kariana Smith.
The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m., Tuesday evening at Ramey Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held 11a.m.,Wednesday, September 7, 2016 at Good Hope Baptist Church with Rev. Jeremy Beauford officiating. Interment will follow in Mayson Memorial Cemetery.
