Frances Sue Baird Vance
Born in Saluda County, S.C. to Spence and Ione Matthews Baird, Frances attended Hollywood School where she was a player on the 1947 championship basketball team and class valedictorian. She was married to Henry Campbell Vance for 60 years. They were the owners and operators of Vance's Fashions and Fabrics, as well as Vance Farms where they produced eggs and raised beef cattle. Frances was a life-long member of Sardis Baptist Church and was a supporter and volunteer with Saluda's Farm and City Week. She was a devoted mother and grandmother that loved gardening, sewing, baking delicious cakes and biscuits, her community and most of all her family.
Frances is survived by her children: Susan Vance, Will Vance, Tammy Vance (Duane), Tina Vance and Lee Vance (Missy); grandchildren: Chris Vance, Amber Meredith-Davis, Michelle V. Padgett, Vance Quattlebaum, Zena Q. Panico, Doug Vance, and Ellen Martin; great-grandchildren: Will Yancey, Cole Yancey, Lucas Davis, and Wyatt Martin; and her sister Margaret Watson.
She is predeceased by her parents, husband, brother David Baird, sisters Ola Mae Hendrix and Katherine Dominick and daughter-in-law, Deborah Vance.
Graveside services will be held February 4th, 2024 at 3:00 PM at Cleve Matthews Cemetery in Batesburg, SC.
