George Wayne Sawyer, Jr., 91, died Thursday, November 30, 2023, at Saluda Nursing Center.

Born in Monetta, SC and a son of the late George Wayne Sawyer, Sr., and Ruby Nichols Sawyer, he was the husband of the late Evelyn Inez Davis Sawyer.

Mr. Sawyer received a bachelor's degree from Clemson Agricultural College and worked for many years in the Department of Agriculture in Saluda. He was a US Army Veteran and served in Korea. Mr. Sawyer was a member of the Lions Club, the Gideons, and a member and past deacon of Saluda Baptist Church.

In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing, gardening, and spending time on the family farm.

Survivors include two daughters, Elizabeth Sawyer O'Malley (Richard) of Elgin, SC and Amy Sawyer Ely (Dennis) of Ridgeway, SC; brother, Tom Sawyer (Debbie) of Monetta, SC; sister, Ruth Jordan of Walhalla, SC; and six grandchildren, Andrea and Hannah O'Malley, Jacob, Caleb, Abby, and Luke Ely.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Evelyn Gasser, Sara Jackson, and Elaine Scott; and a brother, Henry Claude Sawyer.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am, Tuesday, December 5, 2023, at Saluda Baptist Church, Saluda, with Pastor Jeff McCartney officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. A private burial will be held in the Sawyer family cemetery.
