Grace Pope

Grace Butler Neal Pope, 80, passed away Tuesday, September 22, 2026, at her home surrounded by her loved ones.

Born in Saluda County, and a daughter of the late Manual Lee Butler and Kathleen Leopard Butler, she was the wife of Kenneth Garfield Pope. Mrs. Pope was a dedicated and hardworking woman who faithfully served her community and, above all, devoted her life to the Lord. She graduated from Beacon University where she received her doctorate of Theology.

Mrs. Pope’s greatest passion, however, was her faith and her service to others. She was ordained as a minister in 2008 and faithfully answered the call to ministry throughout her life. She held a longtime position as the Home Missions Coordinator for the Congregational Holiness Church – East Carolina District, where she worked tirelessly to serve others and spread the love of Christ.

She loved attending church and bible school and found great fulfillment in sharing her faith with those around her. Her dedication to mission work took her beyond the United States, where she traveled to the Bahamas, Guatemala, Mexico, Honduras, Haiti, along with many other places to serve others and share the Gospel. Through her ministry and mission work, Mrs. Pope touched countless lives and demonstrated her deep love for the Lord and for people.

Her faith, compassion, and willingness to serve will be remembered by all who knew and loved her.

Surviving alongside her husband are a son, Russell “Rusty” Neal; a son-in-law, Ricky C. Addy; three grandchildren, Brent Addy (Rachel), Jason Addy (Melissa), and Brittney Neal; two sisters, Brenda Butler Goff and Linda Butler Murray; and four great-grandchildren all of Saluda.

Mrs. Pope was preceded in death by her first husband, James Thomas Neal; a daughter, Windy Addy; and a brother, Everette “Buddy” Butler.

A graveside service will be held 2 p.m. on Friday, September 25, 2026, at Mayson Memorial Cemetery with Rev. Larry Roland officiating. The family will receive friends following the service.

The family will be at the home of Mr. Kenneth Pope at all other times.
