Obituary

Charleston, SC

Henry Power, Jr.

Henry Johnson Power, Jr., 87, passed away Sunday, August 23, 2026, at Harmony West Ashley in Charleston, SC.

Born in Abbeville, SC and a son of the late Henry Johnson Power, Sr. and Margaret Parker Power, he was the husband of Brenda Joyce O’Dell Power. Mr. Power was a dedicated educator and lifelong learner who graduated from Clemson University and received his master’s degree in mathematics from the University of South Carolina. Following a rewarding career as a statistician with the U.S. Department of Agriculture in Alexandria, VA, he then relocated to Lexington, South Carolina as State Statistician in the USDA’s South Carolina agency. He continued his passion for education by teaching mathematics at Midlands Technical College.

Outside of his professional life, Mr. Power found great enjoyment in the simple pleasures of life. He loved fishing, gardening, traveling, following the Clemson Tigers, and playing golf. Perhaps his greatest memories though were on the soccer fields and baseball fields where he watched his grandchildren, Brooke, Johnny, and Riley, play. Papa, as they called him, will always be remembered as their greatest cheerleader, math tutor, Uber driver, playmate, and overall loving grandfather.

Surviving alongside his wife of 64 years are two sons, Mark O’Dell Power of Louisville, Colorado and Henry Johnson “John” Power, III (Missy) of Charleston, three siblings, Fay Power Hancock (Chalmers) of Saluda, William Power (Cheryl) of Lexington, and Cornelia Ruth Power Edwards (Terry) of Lexington, five grandchildren, Brooke Elizabeth Power, Henry Johnson “Johnny” Power, IV, Riley Kate Power, Bailey Elizabeth Thompson, and Walker Davis Thompson, and a great-granddaughter, Raelyn Blakely Alicea.

Mr. Power was preceded in death by a brother, John Raiford Power.

A graveside service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, August 28, 2026, in Saluda at West Travis Park Cemetery with Reverend Stephen Fitch, pastor at Mt. Horeb United Methodist Church in Lexington, SC, officiating.

The family will receive friends from 12 – 1 p.m. at Ramey Funeral Home in Saluda prior to the service.
