James Ray Butler, 76, of Saluda, South Carolina, passed away on Friday, February 5, 2016 . Born August 12, 1939 in Saluda County. He was the son of the late James William "Bill" Butler and Margurite Edwards Butler.
Ray is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Betty Lou Leopard Butler and his two children, Janice B. Eargle and husband, Richard, and James Larry Butler and wife, Jackie, all of Saluda, SC.
Survivors include also seven grandchildren, Paul Ergle, Jeanette Wilder, Samantha Whittle, Tabitha Morris, Shantay Flake, and Jenifer Kinard Ergle, all of Saluda, SC, and Michael Butler of Monroe, NC; eleven great-grandchildren, Mayson, Star, McKinley, Heather, Chandler, Cherokee, Charlie, Patrick, Shawn, John Michael, and Karolann; two great-great-grandchildren, Ta'laysia and Devonte.
He is survived also by six siblings: Jimmy Dean Butler of Ninety Six, SC, William Carl Butler of Greenwood, SC, Betty Ann McCarty, of Inman, SC, Sylvia Elaine Peele of Commerce, GA, Mary Jean Perry and Thomas Edwards Butler, both of Saluda, SC. In addition, seven nieces and five nephews survive, with two nephews being deceased.
Ray was a Licensed Ordained Minister. He loved the Lord with all his heart. He was a long-standing member of Bible Believers Congregational Holiness Church, Saluda, SC. He loved his church and his church family. He visited, prayed and witnessed to many people over the years.
His hobbies were hunting, fishing, and reading the Bible- just to mention a few. He was a carpenter by trade for over 45 years.
Ray loved his family and was a great role model. He will be missed greatly by all.
The family will receive friends from 5 until 8 p.m., Saturday evening at Ramey Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held 3 p.m., Sunday, February 7, 2016 at Bible Believers Congregational Holiness Church with Rev. Mark Wilkes officiating and assisted by Rev. Danny Jones, Rev. Jerry Rhodes, Rev. Dennis Campbell, Rev. Terry Wilder, Rev. Burton Campbell and Rev. Chuck Clark. Interment will follow in Trinity Lutheran Church Cemetery.
