James "Jimmy" Kirkland
James Lewis "Jimmy" Kirkland, Sr., 64, died Friday, March 5, 2021 at Lexington Medical Center.
Born in Saluda County, son of Annie Lewis Quattlebaum Kirkland and the late James Hue Kirkland, married to Sherry Rodgers Kirkland for 44 years, Jimmy was an active member of Amick Grove Pentecostal Holiness Church, where he served as deacon, Sunday School teacher, and a member of various committees.
Jimmy loved his family, hunting, and nature. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed traveling with his wife to visit natural parks and enjoy the wildlife and scenery. A hunter all his life, he also served as Vice President of Rack and Spur Hunt Club.
He was employed with Savannah River Nuclear Solutions for 40 years working his way from an apprentice to General Superintendent and was also a member of Local 92 Heat and Frost Insulators.
Surviving are his loving wife, Sherry Kirkland, his mother, Annie Lewis Kirkland, three sons, Jamie Kirkland of Chicago, Robbie Kirkland (Deedra) of Saluda, and Keith Kirkland (Lisa) of Batesburg, a brother, Charles Kirkland of Greenville, a sister, Caroline Kirkland of Saluda and five grandchildren, Liberty, Ashley, Gabriel, Elijah and Shelton Dean whom he adored.
Jimmy was preceded in death by three brothers, Keith Kirkland, Bobby Dean Kirkland, and David Kirkland.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m., Wednesday, March 10, 2021 at Amick Grove Pentecostal Holiness Church with Rev. Rusty Trotter and Rev. Preston Foxworth officiating. Those who wish to visit before the memorial may do so on Tuesday, March 9, 2021 from noon to 5 p.m. and Wednesday, March 10, 2021 from 9 a.m. to noon at the funeral home.
