James Harold "Mac" Matthews, 69, died Saturday, July 30, 2016 at Lexington Medical Center.
Born in Saluda County and a son of the late Carl Edwin and Thelma Proctor Matthews, he was the husband of Billie Faye Hastings Matthews. Mac was a US Army veteran and was the owner of Star Package Shop. He was of the Methodist faith.
Mac was a strong and loving father and Papa. He was a prankster who loved the laughter of family and friends. He enjoyed his fishing and always had a bountiful garden. He was "cheerful in all weathers and never shirked a task."
Surviving are his wife and soul mate, Billie Faye Hastings Matthews, two daughters, Anna N. Matthews of Brunswick, GA and Jennifer H. Brock (Freddie) of Lexington, a sister, Sara Ard of Gilbert, eight grandchildren, Lindsey Zee Hite, Devin Hite, Matthew Hite, Dorothy Hite, Tommy Brock, Ryan Brock, Savannah Brock and Breannah Brock, a great-granddaughter, Lilly Brock and his beloved pet companions, Izzy Mae and Ellie.
Mac was preceded in death by a daughter, Melissa M. Hite and a brother, Carl "Ed" Matthews, Jr.
A memorial service will be held 8:30 a.m., Tuesday, August 2, 2016 at Mac's residence, 262 Wightman Rd., Saluda, SC with Rev. Mike Hatfield officiating.
