James "Monk" Lake

James Marion "Monk" Lake, 84, passed away Sunday, July 13, 2025, at his home.

Born in Saluda County, and a son of the late Jim Frank Lake and Willie Ruth Miller Lake, he was the husband of the late Louise Bryant Lake. Mr. Lake spent many years on the road, driving for Southeastern Freight Lines and later working independently as a truck driver, a job he took great pride in. He was a member of Sardis Baptist Church.

Surviving are fiancé, Margaret Bedenbaugh, of the home, a son, James Reedy Lake (Regina Duncan), a daughter, Mindy Lake Grubb (Ronnie), both of Chapin, four grandchildren, Ashlyn Lake West (Derrick) of Tega Cay, SC, Jason Matthew Lake, of Chapin, Donald "Wayne" McManus, Jr. (Paula Estridge), of Kershaw, SC, and Cynthia Ellen McManus, of Chapin, five great-grandchildren, Alex Usher, Andrew Johnston Tripp McManus, Kamden Pauline, and Cameryn McManus, and four brothers and sisters, Robert "Bob" E. Lake, Dorothy "Dot" Slider, Carolyn Minick, and Simmy Lake.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.
