James Roberts, Sr.

James Wallace Roberts, Sr., 90 passed away November 5, 2023, at Saluda Nursing Center.

Born in Chester County and a son of the late Marion Douglas Roberts and Anges Elizabeth Sanders Roberts, he was the husband of Lois Mae Martin Roberts. Through the years, Mr. Roberts served as a Southern Baptist pastor at multiple churches in North Carolina and South Carolina and was also a Chaplain and Lieutenant Colonel in the US Army. He ultimately retired from the military and pastoring and settled in Saluda County seeking to live his retirement years farming. He was a graduate of Campbell University (NC) and North Carolina State University, and he received a Masters of Divinity from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary in Wake Forest, NC. He loved his family deeply and served his congregations faithfully. He enjoyed antiques, classic cars, golf, and was an avid NC State Wolfpack Fan! Most recently he was a member of Little Stevens Creek Baptist Church.

Surviving are his wife of 66 years, Lois Mae Martin Roberts of Raleigh, NC, his three sons, James Wallace "Jimmy" Roberts, Jr. of Saluda, Timothy Douglas "Tim" Roberts (Dawn Edmondson Roberts) of Raleigh, NC, and David Martin "Dave" Roberts (Lorraine Williams Roberts) of Ocala, FL, ten grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Mr. Roberts was preceded in death by four brothers, Marion Roberts, Jr., Harold Roberts, Lee Roberts and Dick Roberts, and a sister, Norma Roberts.

A graveside service will be held 11 a.m., Thursday, November 9, 2023, at Little Stevens Creek Baptist Church with Rev. David Lyda officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
