Jane Vagnoni

Elizabeth Jane Gibson Vagnoni, 95, passed away January 6, 2026, at Wellmore of Lexington.

She was born in Donalsonville, Georgia on January 31, 1930, the daughter of the late Jesse Wilfred Gibson and Valera Edna Bowen Gibson. Jane was the wife of the late Philip Joseph Vagnoni.

They made their home in Saluda in the late 1950's. She was an accomplished seamstress and made a lot of her children's clothes. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, and cross stitching. She loved playing games with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Jane was a member of several bridge clubs and the garden club. She was a valued member of the Knit Wits group where laughter, fellowship, and swapping of favorite recipes was commonly included. She proudly participated on the ladies' golf team at Persimmon Hill Country Club, enjoying both the sport and friendships formed on the course.

Jane was a devout Catholic and was a faithful member of St. William Catholic Church for over 65 years. During those years she taught Sunday School and was a Lector.

Jane moved to Wellmore in Lexington,SC, in 2021. She enjoyed being in a community of her peers and making great friends with residents and staff. She enjoyed playing bridge and bingo when able. Everyone always commented on her sweet smile. She was taken good care of and was well- loved.

Jane had four children: Philip J. Vagnoni (Mary) of Houston, TX, Valera V. Goff (Nevin) of Gable, SC, Beth V. Shumpert (Frank) and Alice V. Mascio (Michael) both of Pelion, SC. She had 15 grandchildren: Orlagh V. Sinisgalli (Matt), Valera Vagnoni, Anna Vagnoni, Ginny G. Mack (Patrick), Ricky Goff (Angie), Charlie Goff (McKenzie), Amy G. Culick (Will), Tommy Goff (Lori Ann), Katherine Shumpert, Daniel Shumpert (Becky), Melissa S. Behles (Anthony), Philip Shumpert (Katie), Marie M. Speering (Justin), Margaret Mascio, Martin Mascio (Courtney), and 28 great-grandchildren. Jane was excited to be expecting another great-grandchild in July and her first great-great-grandchild in June.

Jane was predeceased by her husband, Philip Joseph Vagnoni, of 51 years and her granddaughter, Valera Jane Vagnoni.

The Rosary service will be held 1:00 PM, Saturday, January 10, 2026, at St. William Catholic Church followed by a visitation.

A Funeral Mass will be held 2:30 PM on Saturday, January 10, 2026, at St. William Catholic Church with Father Vincent Finnerty officiating. Internment will follow at West Travis Park Cemetery.
