Jeff Wertz

Jeffrey “Jeff” Wayne Wertz, 63, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, October 16, 2026, at Greenwood Self Regional Hospital.

Born in Greenwood, and a son of Barbara Jean Merchant Wertz Covington and the late William Wayne Wertz, he was the husband of Lynn Sample Wertz. He was a lifelong resident of Saluda County and a member of Good Hope Baptist Church. Jeff was a hardworking man who took pride in his work as a skilled electrician for V.C. Summers, where he was contracted out through the Atlantic Group, a trade he took great pride in throughout his life.

When he wasn’t working, Jeff was happiest outdoors. An avid hunter, he enjoyed the peace of the woods and the time he spent pursuing one of his favorite pastimes. He also had a true passion for big trucks and fast cars, appreciating anything with power, wheels, and the thrill of the drive. His beloved dog, Taz, was never far from his side, and Jeff was always happiest doing the things he loved with the people and companions who meant the most to him.

Above all else, Jeff was a devoted family man whose greatest joy and most treasured blessings were his grandchildren. He was their biggest fan and most devoted supporter, always making it a priority to be present for the special moments in their lives. He especially loved cheering on his grandchildren in their sport endeavors and enjoyed helping with their teams, including the softball teams; Tennessee Mojo Brown and Saluda Storm. Whether he was cheering from the sidelines, lending a helping hand, or simply spending time with his grandchildren, Jeff cherished every opportunity to support them, share in their accomplishments, and create memories they would carry with them forever.

Jeff took great pride in his family and found his greatest happiness in being there for the people he loved. His hardworking nature, generous heart, and unwavering devotion to his family were among the qualities that defined him. Though his passing was unexpected, the love he gave and the memories he created will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. His grandchildren will forever remember their beloved “D” as the man who showed up, cheered the loudest, and loved them with all his heart. He may be gone from their sight, but the love he gave and the memories they shared will remain with them always.

Jeff is survived by his lifelong partner and loving wife of 33 years, Lynn Wertz of the home; his mother, Barbara Jean Merchant Wertz Covington (Eddie) of Saluda; four precious daughters, Misty Holsomback (Adam) of Saluda; Holly Rodgers (Justin) of Saluda; Heather Hughes (Matthew) of Wareshoals; and Chelsea Wertz of Laurens; two brothers, Scott Wertz (Daphine) of Saluda and Brett Wertz (Jason) of Atlanta, G.A; a brother in law, Luke “Little Luke” Harmon (Heather) of Saluda; and his six beloved grandchildren, Adalynn Holsomback, Reagan Holsomback, River Rodgers, Riley Rodgers, Allie Hughes, and Amelia Hughes.

He also leaves behind many nieces, cousins, other close family members, and dear friends, including several beloved members of his work family, who will forever cherish the memories they shared with him.

He was preceded in death by his father, Wayne Wertz.

Arrangements are pending at this time.
