Saluda, SC
Jerry Pow
Jerry Cleaves Pow, 74, died Tuesday, April 5, 2022 at his home.
Born on March 18, 1948 in Newberry, SC to the late Frank C. Pow and Meta Lou McCarty Pow, he was the husband of Brenda Harrington Pow. Jerry graduated from Saluda High School in 1966. He then attended The Baptist College of Charleston. Jerry returned to Saluda with great ambition, where he eventually opened Ace Hardware (now The Hardware Store) one of the first national franchises in Saluda, SC. He was a member of Saluda Baptist Church and served in the South Carolina National Guard, 122nd Engineer Company in Saluda.
Jerry was a devoted business man, pillar in the community and faithful servant to the town of Saluda. More importantly he served his heavenly Father well, caring for others constantly and most of the time anonymously. He always rooted for the underdog whether in life or sports.
Jerry will be remembered for the joy, kind heart, and humor that he poured onto each encounter. This love of life and people was evident if you just met him, or had known him your entire life. He had a way of making you smile even if you felt like crying. Few people could tell a story with the charm, character, and enthusiasm the way he could. He lived his life by simply following a phrase he often said, "Don't worry be happy"
Surviving are his wife, Brenda Harrington Pow, three sons, Mark Pow of Greenville, Brian Pow of Newark, DE and Jeremy Pow of Columbia, three sisters, Jeanita Forrest (Danny) of Rock Hill, Sallie Quattlebaum (Russell) and Mary Alice Quattlebaum (Floyd) both of Saluda, and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held 3 p.m., Sunday, April 10, 2022 at Saluda Baptist Church with Rev. Jeff McCartney, Rev. Don Bishop, Rev. Burton Campbell and Minister Chris Bosket. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the church foyer.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Hospice & Palliative Care of the Piedmont, 408 W. Alexander Ave., Greenwood, SC 29646 who recently cared for both Jerry's and Brenda's mothers.
