Jessie Werts

Jessie Azilee Smith Werts, 96, died peacefully at Lexington Community Hospice House following a brief illness. Jessie was born in the Good Hope community of Saluda, SC on November 9, 1927, to the late Patrick Eugene Smith and Sudie Mae Rice Smith. She was a devoted wife of the late David William Werts, Sr.

Jessie's surviving family are daughters, Brenda W. Moons (Chris) of Jupiter, Florida, and Jane Autrey Bryant (Todd) of Gilbert, a son, David Werts, Jr. (Maribeth) of Saluda; one sister, Sara Crawford; grandchildren, Stephanie Gentry, Christina Moons-Sturgill, Joshua Uhlar, Amber Newby, Mikell Autrey, Chad Arant, Kori Miller, Brad Werts, Jess Werts; and numerous great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

Jessie was predeceased by her husband, David William Werts, Sr.; a daughter, Betty Jo Werts; a brother, Virgil Smith; and sisters, Lula Mae Jester, Vinetta Nicholson, and Doris Jay.

Jessie retired from SCE&G in Saluda and was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church where she was also a member of the United Methodist Women's Group and The Dorsey Circle for many years. She was a member of the Saluda County Historical Society where she served as a volunteer. She was an avid reader and enjoyed cooking, working in her yard, and spending time with her family and friends.

Funeral Services will be held at 3:00 p.m., on Wednesday, March 27, 2024, at St. Paul United Methodist Church in Saluda, SC with the Rev. Cameron Levi officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. prior to the service in the family life center. Interment will follow in West Travis Park Cemetery.
