Obituary

Jimmy Rushton, 82, died Wednesday, September 14, 2016 at Saluda Nursing Center.

Born in Saluda County and a son of the late James A. and Mamie DeLoache Rushton, he was the husband of Mary Johnette Grant Rushton. Mr. Rushton retired from the Savannah River Plant and retired from the South Carolina National Guard Saluda 122nd Engineer Company after 30 years of service. He volunteered with the Saluda Nursing Center and was a member of the Saluda Historical Society. Mr. Rushton was a former High School Basketball Referee and enjoyed coaching Dixie Youth Baseball. As a Charter Member of Saluda Baptist Church, he served as a Sunday School Teacher and was a former Deacon.

Surviving is his wife of 63 years, Mary Johnette Grant Rushton, three sons, Ronald Layne Rushton (Kathy) of Saluda, R. Patrick Rushton (Wanda) of Statesville, NC and James Kenneth Rushton (Donna) of Saluda, a daughter in-law, Joyce C. Rushton of Saluda, nine grandchildren, Rebekah, Rachel, Daniel, Elliott, Marian, Ian, Andrew, Kayla and Mark and three great-grandchildren, Miles, Max and Owen.

Mr. Rushton was preceded in death by a son, David Elliott Rushton, five brothers, John Lee Rushton, Grady Rushton, Wayne Rushton, Chesley Rushton and Clem Rushton and two sister, Fannie Mae Glover and Grace Goodman.

The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 p.m., Friday evening at Ramey Funeral home.

Services will be held 11 a.m., Saturday, September 17, 2016 at Saluda Baptist Church with Rev. Stacey Smith and Dr. Don Bishop officiating.
