Jimmy Wood
Jimmy Ray Wood, 80, passed away Thursday, August 14, 2025 at Self Regional Healthcare in Greenwood.
Born in Greenwood County and a son of the late Herman O. Wood and Lula Elizabeth Mitchell Wood, he was the husband of Rosemary Pugh Johnson Wood. Mr. Wood proudly served in the South Carolina National Guard with the 122nd Engineer Company in Saluda. He later retired from a long and dedicated career with the telephone company, CenturyLink. A longtime member of Good Hope Baptist Church, he was also a passionate supporter of the Yankees and South Carolina Gamecocks. As a proud member of the Gamecock Club for over 50 years, he rarely missed a game and could often be found in the stands cheering on his team, surrounded by family, friends and fellow fans. Jimmy never met a stranger and was known for his infectious smile.
Surviving are a daughter, Christie W. Norgart (Ryan) of Charleston, a sister, Lena Warren of Greenwood, three grandchildren, Van Norgart, Cale Norgart and Tucker Norgart, multiple nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held 4 p.m., Saturday, August 23, 2025 at Good Hope Baptist Church with Rev. Lee Going and Rev. Randy Ouzts officiating. Internment will follow in Mayson Memorial. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1 until 3 p.m., at Mr. Jimmy's childhood home (his mother's home) per his wishes. The family requests those attending wear garnet and black to show your support of his love for the Gamecocks.
