John Vastine Herlong's Obituary
John Vastine Herlong, 95, died on Monday, December 19, 2016 at The Lexington Medical Center.
Born in Saluda County, he was a son of the late John Forrest and Bertha Hipp Herlong. Mr. Herlong was a World War II Army Air Corp Fighter pilot and served in "The Battle of The Bulge". After the war he was employed by Charlotte Aircraft in Charlotte, NC and Miami, FL.
He is survived by a brother, Lowell B. Herlong (Barbara) of Saluda, a sister, Peggy H. DeHart (Ted) of North Augusta, SC and a number of nieces and nephews.
Mr. Herlong was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Miller Herlong and three sisters, Frances H. Wright, Dolly H. Riddle Lindler and Eudora H. Forrest.
A Graveside service will be held 1 p.m., Thursday, December 22, 2016 at Forest Lawn West Cemetery in Charlotte, NC.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a charity of one's choice.
