Johnnie Ergle
Johnnie Ergle, 72, passed away Tuesday, April 7, 2026, at Lexington Community Hospice House surrounded by his family.
Born in Aiken, and the son of the late Alonza Ray Ergle and Sadie Sanders Ergle, he was the husband of Kathy Rogers Ergle. Mr. Ergle was a devoted and hardworking man who dedicated many years of his life as a loan officer in the finance industry, where he built lasting relationships through his integrity and willingness to help those in need. He was a graduate of Ridge Spring-Monetta High School and a member of Saluda Baptist Church.
Outside of his career, he found great joy in life's simple pleasures and in the people he loved most. A passionate fan of the Clemson Tigers, he rarely missed an opportunity to cheer them on and especially treasured taking his children to Clemson football games, creating memories that will be cherished for years to come.
Mr. Ergle's greatest happiness, however, came from his family. He loved supporting his grandchildren and great-grandchildren while playing sports and dancing. He was always their proudest fan and a constant source of encouragement and love.
He also had a deep appreciation for music. Gifted with a natural talent, Mr. Ergle enjoyed playing the piano beautifully by ear, bringing joy to his children with every note. His love for music, his generous spirit, and his devotion to family will be remembered fondly by all who knew him.
Surviving alongside his wife, Kathy Rogers Ergle, are four children, George Roy Herndon (Jenny) of Charlotte, NC, Clyda Herndon Bodie, of Lexington, Kelly Ergle Minick (Burt), and Jonathan Kirk Ergle (April) all of Saluda, nine grandchildren, Helena Herndon, Charlie Herndon, Cheyenne Bodie, Kirksi Bodie Smith (Chris), Arrie Bodie Harrison (Reid), Sadie Minick, Sophie Ergle, and William Ergle, and five great-grandchildren, Selah Bodie, Tracen Jones, RaeLee Jones, Dayson Stockton, and Haisleigh Harrison.
The family extends a special thank you to Gina Schultz (niece) and Lexington Community Hospice House for the compassionate care they provided to Mr. Ergle.
A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. on Friday, April 10, 2026, at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Burton Campbell officiating. The family will receive friends following the service and at other times, at the home of Burt and Kelly Minick.
Memorials may be made to Saluda High School Athletic Department, c/o Jeanette Ergle Wilder, AD, 240 Ivory Key Road, Saluda, SC 29138.
