Heaven received a special man, Joseph Edward Mitchell, 83, passed away March 3, 2014.
Born March 20, 1930 in Saluda County and a son of the late Henry and Alma Walton Mitchell, he was the husband of Joyce Windham Mitchell. Mr. Mitchell was employed with Greenwood Mills for 11 years, Greenwood Tire and Supply for 35 years and retired from Senn Trucking after 23 years. After retirement he went back to work for the County of Saluda, working at the recycle center in the Good Hope Community, where he worked until August 2013. He was a member of Sand Ridge Baptist Church where he served as deacon.
Surviving are his wife, Joyce Windham Mitchell, three daughters, Margaret Ann (Susie) Sanders, husband John of Hodges, Janet Holley, husband Ricky of Greenwood and Cindy Corley, husband Ray of Ninety Six, three step-children, Tammy Moore, husband Darryl of Lugoff, Steve Smith of Little Mountain and Robert Simmons of Saluda, a brother, Hiram Mitchell (Grace) of Ninety Six, a brother in-law, Robert Bryans of Lexington, nine grandchildren, five step-grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, one step-great-grandson and three great-great-grandsons.
He was predeceased by brothers, Kenneth and Bill Mitchell of Saluda and sisters, Edna Werts of Saluda and Eloise Bryans of Lexington. Also two step-children, Pam Simmons of Saluda and Jeff Smith of Lexington.
A Graveside service will be held 11am Wednesday, March 5, 2014 at Good Hope Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Burton Campbell officiating.
In Lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice Care of the Piedmont, 408 West Alexander Ave., Greenwood, SC 29646 or to Good Hope Baptist Church, 1738 Greenwood Hwy., Saluda, SC 29138.
