Larry Black
Larry Duane Black, age 93, passed away peacefully on December 11, 2025, in his lifelong home. Born on October 3, 1932, he lived a long life marked by independence, resilience, and quiet determination.
Throughout his 93 years, Larry chose to live life on his own terms. He lived alone for most of his life and took great pride in being self-reliant, capable, and independent. He was known for his strong will, steady routines, and his ability to take care of himself without complaint. Even in his later years, he remained determined to maintain his independence, a quality that defined him and earned the respect of those who knew him.
Larry spent majority of his career at Satterfield Construction Company, as a motor grader operator, where he was known for his strong work ethic, dedication, and reliability. He was also a member of Sardis Baptist Church, where his quiet faith and commitment were evident throughout his life. As the oldest surviving sibling, he carried a quiet sense of strength that shaped who he was.
Larry appreciated the simple things in life and found comfort in familiarity and routine. He was not one to seek attention, but his presence was steady and meaningful to those who took the time to know him.
He is survived by a sister-in-law, Barbara Elaine Black, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jacob Quinton and Jessie Olean Kirkland Black, brother, Bobby Darrell Black, and two sisters, Linda Sue Black Bedenbaugh, and Audette Cockrell Feaster.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m., on Wednesday, December 17, 2025, at Cleve Matthews Cemetery with Jeff Hallman and Rev. Dennis Campbell officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at the cemetery.
His life serves as a quiet reminder of strength, self-sufficiency, and living with dignity.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, Memorial Processing, 501 St. Jude PL, Memphis, TN 38105-9959 - a cause he passionately supported.
