Laverne Cockrell, 69, died Tuesday, July 8, 2014 at his residence.

Born in Saluda County and a son of the late Joe Dell and Lillian Beatrice Painter Cockrell, he was the husband of Patricia Ann Kelly Cockrell. Mr. Cockrell was a Carpenter.

Surviving in addition to his wife are children, Kathy (Robin) Charles, Susan (John) Bennett, Laverne "Buddy" ( Jean) Cockrell and Bonnie (Frankie) Burnett all of Saluda, a brother, Harold Dean (Peggy) Cockrell of Ward, a sister, Antha (Ronnie) Davis of Ward, a sister in-law, Rhonda Cockrell of Ninety Six, 15 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Mr. Cockrell was preceded in death by two brothers, Joel Ray Cockrell and Gary Allen Cockrell and a sister, Lillian Joan Stennett.

Funeral services will be held 5 p.m., Thursday, July 10, 2014 at Hopewell Congregational Holiness Church. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Mr. Laverne will be taken to his home Wednesday afternoon for visitation and will remain there until he is placed in the church at 4p.m. on Thursday.
