Lois Martin Roberts
Lois Mae Martin Roberts, 90, passed away Sunday, May 24, 2026 at SECU Hospice House in Smithfield, NC and was surrounded by her family during her last days.
Born in Danville, VA, and a daughter of the late Henry Clay Martin and Anne Blanche Clements Martin, she was the wife of the late James (Jim) Wallace Roberts, Sr. Lois earned a degree from Averett College and later finished her education at Meredith College in Raleigh. Lois felt called to be the wife of either a pastor or missionary and met Jim while both attended Forest Hills Baptist Church as college students. She retired as a social worker after many years of dedicated service with the Whitten Center and the Midlands Center. Following her retirement, she continued serving others through her work with the Saluda County Council on Aging.
Lois was a devoted chaplain and pastor's wife and her favorite passage in the Bible was Psalm 139. She loved studying the Bible, praying for her family and friends, singing hymns, listening to instrumental music, plus making crafts for her friends and family and doing puzzles. Lois was a faithful member of Little Stevens Creek Baptist Church, where she served as a Sunday School teacher and sang in the choir. During her latter days, she enjoyed attending on-line Sunday church services, FaceTiming extended family, plus looking at photos and videos of her great-grandchildren on her iPad.
Surviving are three sons, James Wallace "Jimmy" Roberts, Jr. of Saluda, Timothy Douglas "Tim" Roberts (Dawn Edmondson Roberts) of Raleigh, NC and David Martin "Dave" Roberts (Lorraine Williams Roberts) of Ocala, FL, ten grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Roberts was preceded in death by three brothers, Harold Martin, Carson Martin and Irvin Martin and a sister, Mary Anne Martin Motley.
Funeral services will be held 11a.m., Wednesday, June 3, 2026 at Little Stevens Creek Baptist Church with Rev. Ryan Vaughan officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the social hall.
