Lucy Jeanette Matthews Shealy, 79,, died August 8, 2018 at her home in Saluda, S.C. Born October 15, 1938, she is the daughter of the late Candler Grady and Verda Mae Etheredge Matthews.

Upon graduation from Saluda High School in 1956 and Columbia College in 1960, Jeanette taught secondary French in Saluda and Beaufort, S.C. Incidently one of her past students was the late Pat Conroy. Her passion for the arts led her to serve on the Saluda County Library Board, Garden Club of Saluda, Mount Pleasant Lutheran Church council, Saluda Historical Society, and Saluda Nursing Center Board. She was also certified as a Flower Show judge by the Garden Club of S.C.

Jeanette, better known as Nette, married the love of her life, Dr. Wyman Lester Shealy in 1960 at Saluda Presbyterian Church, She treasured learning and performed the culinary art of crafting homemade buttermilk bisquits and cornbread dressing with her daughter "Candi" by her side. Wyman and Nette traveled extensively including Europe and China.

Jeanette loved life, and more so, loved her family. She is predeceased by her parents and beautiful daughter, Candler Leslie Shealy Smith, whom she adored. Nette is survived by her husband of 57 years, son-in-law, Franklin Davis Smith, grandchildren Candler Davis Smith and Davis Shealy Smith, sisters Verda Ann Matthews Potts (Paul), Amelia Raymel Matthews Herlong (Frank), Candler Grady Matthews, Jr. (Renee), and beloved cousins, nieces and nephews.

No formal visitation. Memorial services will be conducted at 11:00 AM, Saturday, August 11, 2018 at Mount Pleasant Lutheran Church, 101 N. Calhoun St. Saluda.
