Lula Mitchell Wood, age 95 of Saluda, widow of Herman O. Wood died Saturday, January 13 at Self Regional Hospital following a brief illness. Born November 11, 1922 she was the daughter of the late Rufus Mitchell and Nola Ouzts Mitchell. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She loved the people of her community and church family of Good Hope Baptist Church where she was a lifelong member. She was a wonderful cook and enjoyed hosting friends and family in her home.
She is survived by a son, Jimmy Wood (Rosemary) of Saluda and a daughter, Lena Wood Warren (Jim, deceased) of Greenwood; granddaughters, Elizabeth Warren Smith (Craig) of Greenwood, Ashley Warren Hollingsworth (Michael) of Daufuskie Island, Christie Wood Norgart (Ryan) of Charleston and great-grandchildren, Nathan and Zach Smith of Greenwood, Warren and Nola Grace Hollingsworth of Daufuskie Island and Van, Cale and Tucker Norgart of Charleston. She is also survived by her sister, Mary Mitchell Henderson of Columbia. She was predeceased by a brother, Edward Joseph Mitchell of Charleston and a niece, Janet Mitchell of Saluda. Surviving nieces and nephews are Donna Henderson Sprung of Columbia, Edward Mitchell of Saluda, Ginger Mitchell Byrd and Charles Henderson of Atlanta.
The family will receive visitors at the home Sunday, January 14 from 4 - 6 pm.
Burial at Mayson Memorial Cemetery will be at 1:00 p.m. Monday, January 15 followed by a Memorial service at Good Hope Baptist Church at 1:30p.m.
