Mamie Lee Nichols Longshore, 89, entered the Church Triumphant on January 26, 2015. Born in Saluda County, she was the daughter of Benjamin Calhoun and Nina Black Nichols. She was the wife of 64 years to the late Harold Hendrix Longshore.
She was a graduate of Hollywood High School and Winthrop College where she received a Bachelor of Arts degree. Upon graduation she taught Home Economics at Saluda High School.
Mrs. Longshore was a lifelong member of Corinth Lutheran Church. She was active in the WELCA and Golden Age groups of the parish. She was also a member of the Saluda County Family Community Leaders organization.
As the wife of a dairy farmer, hard work was no stranger to her. She was an avid vegetable and flower gardener and was quick to share them both with those in her community. In addition to her love of the outdoors she also enjoyed sewing, macramé, and canning. Her expertise in home economics will live on in the lives of those she mentored over the years.
Mrs. Longshore is survived by her children, Nickie Harold and Lewis Allen Longshore of Saluda. She is also survived by sisters Matilda Watson Freeland and Nellie Riley, and a brother, Jake Nichols. She was preceded in death by brothers, Tillman, Roy, Wilson, Guy, Paul, and Grady Nichols, and by a sister Georgia Fae Leveret. She is also survived by a host of nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at Corinth Lutheran Church at 11a.m. on Thursday, January 29th. The family request that memorials be made to Corinth Lutheran Church, 3178 Denny Hwy, Prosperity, SC 29127 or to the charity of one's choice.
