Mary Porter Clamp
Mary Elizabeth Porter Clamp, 99, passed away Wednesday, November 27, 2024, at Saluda Nursing Center surrounded by her family.
Born in Saluda County and a daughter of the late John Henry Porter and Fannie Lee Edwards Porter, she was the wife of the late, Jefferson Roosevelt "JR" Clamp. She worked many years at Reigle in Johnston before retiring. Mrs. Clamp was a graduate of Emory School and a faithful member of Emory Methodist Church. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, and canning.
Surviving are a son, Henry Clamp (Becky) of Saluda, a brother, George Donald Porter of Saluda, three grandsons, Jason Clamp (Suzie) of Lexington, Justin Clamp (Kimberly) and Jeremy Clamp both of Saluda, three greatgrandchildren, Austin, Aiden and Ashlyn Clamp, and numerous nieces and nephews who affectionately called her aunt sis.
Mrs. Clamp was preceded in death by four brothers, Lewis Edward Porter, Thomas Richard Porter, James Everett Porter and William Ronald Porter, three sisters, Alice Rebecca Waters, Willie Ruth Langford and Doris P. Forrest and a great-granddaughter, Aubrey Elizabeth Clamp.
A graveside memorial service will be held 1 p.m. on Monday, December 2, 2024, at Emory Methodist Church with Rev. Ken Freeman officiating. The family will receive friends following the service in the church social hall.
