Mary Frances Smith Waites, 89, died Saturday, May 2, 2015, at Saluda Nursing Center.

Mrs. Waites, affectionately known as "Ma Pete", was the daughter of the late John Davis and Bessie Butler Smith. She was the wife of the late Joe Mimmon "J. M. " Waites, Jr. Mrs. Waites retired from Park Davis in Greenwood and was a member of Good Hope Baptist Church where she was a member of the Myrna B. Watkins Sunday School Class and a member of the choir for 50 years.

Surviving are two daughters, Terri W. Arthur of Ninety Six and Patti W. Adams (Cecil) of Saluda, three grandchildren, Heather A. Nix (Matt) of Bishopville, Matthew W. Adams (Breanna) of Saluda and Jered W. Adams (Ashley) of Lexington and three great grandchildren, Bailey Nix, Drew Nix and Cooper Adams.

Mrs. Waites was preceded in death by four brothers, James Edward Smith, J. D. Smith, Carroll Wilbur Smith and Walter Smith and a son-in-law, R. Kent Arthur.

The family would like to recognize Dr. William C. Sawyer, the Saluda Nursing Center Administration and the staff of the Sawyer Unit for their love and care.

Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Tuesday, May 5, 2015, at Good Hope Baptist Church with Rev. Jeremy Beauford officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the church social hall.
