Mary Lois Buffington Parkman, 77, died Sunday, October 14, 2018 at Saluda Nursing Center. She was the widow of Raymond James Parkman and the daughter of the late Joe Lee and Eoline Duffie Buffington. She is survived by a daughter, Pamela Anne Parkman of Saluda, two sisters, Lacoie B. Jones of Saluda and Josie L. Bartley of Ward, one nephew, two nieces and a special godson and his wife, Dwayne and Katie S. Black.
Mrs. Parkman was preceded in death by a daughter, Donna P. Davis.
Mrs. Parkman was a lifelong resident of Saluda County. She was a charter member and founder of the Saluda County Historical Society. She was the inspiration and president that pushed the society to the top in the State, receiving the highest honors from the South Carolina Federation of Local Historical Societies. She was the driving force behind many publications by the society including three volumes of Saluda County Cemeteries.
She retired from Milliken-Saluda Plant in 1979 and was involved in many other civic organizations. In August 1995 she was recognized by the South Carolina Senate for her volunteer dedication to the civic activities of Saluda County.
A Graveside service will be held 11 a.m., Saturday, October 20, 2018 at Trinity Lutheran Church Cemetery with Rev. Bill Stone officiating.
