Milton Schumpert

Milton Wyse Schumpert, 91, passed away Saturday, April 18, 2026, at Harmony at Wescott surrounded by his family.

Born in Saluda County, and a son of the late George William Schumpert, Sr. and Louise Yarborough Schumpert, he was the husband of Patricia "Patsy" Ann Kirkland Schumpert. He lived a life defined by service, skill, and quiet generosity. Mr. Schumpert retired from AT&T as a communications engineer, where he devoted many years. In addition, he shared his knowledge and expertise by working with the state, helping manage and maintain essential telephone systems. Mr. Schumpert also honorably served his country in the United States Army, carrying with him a strong sense of discipline and dedication throughout his life. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Columbia.

Outside of his career, he found his greatest joy in working with his hands. Mr. Schumpert had a true gift for carpentry and woodworking, creating beautiful and meaningful pieces for his family, friends, and neighbors. Even making blue bird houses for the local gardening clubs. Each project was a reflection of his care and thoughtfulness, and his work will continue to be cherished for years to come.

Mr. Schumpert will be remembered as a man who was dependable, kind, and always willing to help others. His legacy is one of hard work, generosity, integrity and love for his family and community. While his presence will be deeply missed, there is comfort in the faith he held dear, knowing that "He now waits the transporting moment when the trump of God shall call him forth to Glory, Honor and Immortality."

Surviving alongside his wife of 68 years, Patricia "Patsy" Ann Schumpert, are four daughters, Karen Schumpert Foster (Carl) of Columbia, Miriam "Meme" Schumpert Shealy (David) of Chapin, Julia Schumpert Traw (Perry) of Summerville, and Sandra "Sandi" Schumpert Di Toma (Paul) of Canal Winchester, OH, thirteen grandchildren, Weston Wyse Clowney (Miranda), Jonathan Broney (Aimee), Jay Schumpert, Cate Yackey (Bud), Mackenzie Washington (Eon), Beverly Foster, Stephanie May (Zachary), Victoria Mathis (Thomas), Timothy Traw (Natasha), Caytie Crespo (Jose), Tricia Busbee (Andrew), Ella Di Toma, and Zachary Di Toma, fifteen great-grandchildren, Kathryn, Michelle, Jasmine, Weston, Thomas, Sydney, Jack, William, Maddox, Parker, Theo, Ben, Nolan, Toni, and Rhett, and numerous nieces and nephews.

The Schumpert family would like to thank Peggy Esau and Alicia Knotts for the loving and compassionate in home care they gave Milton and to each of us.
