Nettie Mae Kirkland McCarty, 88, died Saturday, June 8, 2019 at Saluda Nursing Center.

Born in Saluda County, and a daughter of the late Henry Lude and Sudie Fallaw Kirkland, she was married to the late Harold Edwin McCarty, Sr. Mrs. McCarty was a graduate of Hollywood High School and played on two State Championship Basketball teams. She graduated from Charzanne Beauty School and was owner of Magic Mirror Beauty Salon in Ninety Six. She was a member of Clydes Chapel Southern Methodist Church in Batesburg and Cambridge United Methodist Church in Ninety Six.

Surviving are two sons, Harold Edwin McCarty, Jr. (Ann) of Honea Path, and George Walter McCarty (Cissy) of Ninety Six, a daughter Joann McCarty Laningham of Ninety Six, four sisters, Thelma Rushton, Betty Jean Bedenbough (Legar) of Saluda, Patsy Schumpert (Milton) of Columbia, and Peggy Derrick (Milton) of Lexington,,seven grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren.

Mrs. McCarty is preceded in death by four brothers, H.L. Kirkland, Valmore Kirkland, Wendell Kirkland, and Lewis Kirkland, a sister, Edna Welchel and a grandson, Lynn Stapleton.

Funeral Services will be held 2 p.m., Tuesday, June 11, 2019 at Clydes Chapel Southern Methodist Church with Paster Greg Williams, Paster Hank Brooks and grandson Brian officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
