Nickie Harold Longshore

Nickie Harold Longshore, 74 of Saluda, joined his Lord and Savior on January 11, 2025. Born in Newberry County, Nickie was the eldest son of the late Harold Hendrix and Mamie Lee Nichols Longshore.

Nickie attended Hollywood High School. Upon completion, he returned to his family's farming operation, Nichols and Longshore Dairy, where he would be employed for the next 40+ years, ultimately becoming partner. During his years on the dairy, his jobs included feeding calves and gathering the herd for milking. Nickie was also the farm's (un)official milk-taster, often seen with the old metal dipping ladle, sampling that day's bounty.

Nickie was a faithful, lifelong member of Corinth Lutheran Church. He was active in Lutheran Men in Mission and was a Golden Ager. Nickie was always an avid Sunday school attendee. In his younger years he passed out bulletins and served as church greeter each Sunday, warmly welcoming those in attendance.

He was also a dedicated member of the Hollywood Ruritan Club and Saluda County's Cattlemen's and Forestry Associations.

Nickie will especially be remembered for his kind heart, fondness of dogs, and his love of good food. To know Nickie was to know he possessed an undeniable sweet tooth. The clinking of his old metal Slinky rhythmically shuffling back and forth conveyed to the household that Nickie was content, as well as to his whereabouts….

He is survived by his devoted brother, Lewis Allen Longshore of Saluda, an aunt, Myrtle Longshore of Chappells, a host of special cousins, and his dog, Buster.

Heartfelt gratitude is expressed to Nickie's extended family, community of friends, and to his compassionate caregivers, Cindy Clark and Gloria Gilliam, for their unwavering acts of kindness, support, and care over the years.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. on January 14th at Corinth Lutheran Church. The family request that memorials be made to Corinth Lutheran Church, 1170 Corinth Rd, Saluda SC 29138 or to the charity of one's choice.
